During our trip up to my family reunion we stopped in Fillmore, Utah to get gas. We notice a sign near there for Cove Fort and decided to check it out. The fort is was built in 1867 by request of the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly known as Mormons) to serve as a way station for church members, miners, traders, mail carriers and other travelers passing through. It is now a church historical site. There are missionary couples there giving tours to anyone who wants to see it. And it's free. I like free. =) Incidentally, the picture from Wednesday is a detail from one of the heavy doors of the fort.

I like the photo of the tree. Did you climb it to get the photo of the roof?

Timmybomb- As cool as it would have been to be able to say that I climbed the tree to get the shot, it isn't so. There's a walk way up on one side of the fort. Although I was quite the tree climber as a kid, I doubt I would be able to do it now. =)
Climbing up trees is easy... climbing down is where it gets sticky.
Both great shots. I love the framing of both. Could that tree be in a more perfect spot?
The buildings are in very good condition, of course its stone, stone lasts.
