I saw this great egret for a few moments before it flew away. I would have like to get a better picture, but there wasn't much I could do. I didn't know what this bird was when I saw it, but I have started making use of the Pictorial Guide To Illinois Birds.

looks like a Crane to me. I see them often near a pond by my house.
